What is the MILD 32.5?
Yeah, good question. The short answer is that it is a lifestyle challenge that is unproven, not backed by science, but is probably better than what you are not doing right now.
Or maybe not… If you are really into hard workouts for more than 30 minutes, read a chapter of a book or more, eat three good meals of food that’s not bad for you, and check in with your homies (or at least one) every day, than you are doing better than many (pat yourself on the back and keep it up!).
The MILD 32.5 focuses on some generally good for you practices that we all know we should probably be doing, but don’t, and put it in a nice little bundled challenge to make doing things we don’t generally like doing a bit more fun.
Why “32.5”?
Another good question. You are on a roll!
There are some other really good challenges out there that are some toughies. Over the years we’ve heard a lot of people all jazzed up talking about getting ready to start the “insert challenge name here.” Or we see posts bombarding our social feeds of early progress. A few weeks (or days later), we often soon find out that they didn’t quite make it for the third time.
Now these challenges are bad, impossible, or shams. Many of them are awesome! For someone that hasn’t done a push up, read anything but their phone, or consistently eats foods that are known to not promote good health, it may not be the right thing. This drastic change from 0 to 100 may actually be leading them to bite off more than they can chew, only to not get back up again and go back to the old ways they know they want to kick.
The 32.5 represents 32 and one-half days. This is long enough to be a challenge for most, while also helping to promote actual habit change within an attainable time frame. The half day is just kinda funny and we thought “why not.”
Origin of the MILD 32.5 (Long Version)
One fine evening, two sisters and two brother-in-law’s gathered together to cheer on their football team (who won by the way). During the game, one of the guys brought up a challenge that he had just seen someone post about getting ready for. Yep, like we said before. He had heard of this challenge from a number of people before, but not done it himself. He asked the others if they had ever done it.
None of them had even heard of it. So, the brother filled them in and read off the “rules.” They all looked at him blankly, then in unison laughed. With five kids of various ages between the two houses, the idea was a stretch to say the least. Some may say it’s an excuse, but ironically, we haven’t met too many people that have multiple small children at home along with full time careers that have brought these types of challenge’s up.
After a little back and forth about excuses, acceptance, and laughter, the group started discussing what would be a good, challenging, yet realistic pursuit that we could have fun with.
Thus, the MILD 32.5 was born! We set out to give it a go, knowing that it wouldn’t be easy, but not extreme and out of the realm of the realities of our life while having some fun with it. It will be mildy hard.
It’s unproven because we are just starting it. It is not backed by science (necessarily) because we aren’t promising you anything and when it comes to exercise you need to be real with yourself and set the right goals that are aligned with your current health. But we can say that if you follow the rules of the game, it is probably better than what you are not doing right now.
So, come join us, find a friend, have some fun, and see what you can gain in 32.5 days!
